Lip Augmentation Atlanta, GA – Perfect your Pout with Lip Fillers
Lip augmentation has become one of our most popular injections. Women love the added lip definition and fullness. For many, lip volume diminishes with age, and restoration of volume creates a more youthful appearance. For the younger patients, volume is in! And for others, lip fillers are sought to create a more aesthetically desired lip contour.

Why Choose Our Doctors for Lip Enhancement?
Our team approaches each injection individually, highlighting the patient’s natural beauty. They augment the lip, but also focus on the surrounding areas that correspond to lip beauty, such as the philtral columns (also known as the cupid’s bow) and the corners of the mouth.
Our team’s goal is to perform the injection in the most pain-free way possible, using a combination of topical and local anesthesia. The advancements in filler options have really enhanced this procedure. For example, Restylane® Refyne is a product that has much less post-injection swelling and minimal chance for nodules compared to other products. It’s fun to watch the patient when they first see their lips after injection; the excitement is palpable!

A variety of safe and effective fillers are available for restoring lip volume:
The easiest and most popular method for augmenting lips is by using a soft tissue filler such as Juvéderm® or Restylane®. The filler will last between six to nine months, and therefore, will require reapplication to maintain volume. The procedure is performed in the office with topical anesthetic, takes only 20-30 minutes, is well tolerated by patients and has minimal downtime.
Fat grafting to the lips is another alternative for restoring volume. Fat is harvested from a patient’s body, such as the abdomen, and injected into the lips. The downside of these lip enhancement procedures is that the amount of fat that will survive is unpredictable, resulting in less predictable results compared to using soft-tissue fillers.
Lastly, lip implants are available for augmentation. However, this is the least popular method for augmentation. The silicone implants are placed through a small incision in the corner of the mouth under local or IV sedation. The implant adds volume but is more palpable than the other available options.
Lip injections can:
- Add volume to the lips
- Define the lip border
- Raise the corners of the mouth
- Treat lines around the mouth, i.e. smoker’s lines, vertical lip lines
- Adds subtle hydration to the lips

Which Lip Enhancement Procedure is Right for You?
Deciding which lip augmentation is best for you should be a discussion between you and your injector during your initial consultation. In general, a non-permanent option is always the preferred initial treatment so that our doctors can make sure you are comfortable with the additional lip volume.
Consider longevity of your chosen procedure as well. It is hard to predict how long fat transfer to lips will last. For some people, it does not last as long as it does in other areas of the face. Research suggests 1/3 of fat transferred becomes permanent. For some people, it does not last as long as it does in other areas of the face. This may be due to the amount of movement in this area. The same goes for other fillers.
Can My Lip Injections Be Dissolved If I Do Not Like Them?
Give yourself time to allow swelling to resolve before you decide to reverse treatment. Most swelling goes down in a couple days; waiting a week is appropriate. If you are still unhappy with the lip size, you have two options after hyaluronic acid injection. Wait it out, as your body naturally absorbs and breaks down the injectable filler over a few months. Another option to consider hyaluronidase, a material which accelerates the breakdown of hyaluronic acid.
If you had a fat transfer procedure, it is possible to remove added cells through a small incision with a fine liposuction cannula.
What Is the “Safest” Lip Injection?
Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane® and Juvéderm® are the safest for lip augmentation. These fillers are safe because they are made from a substance that is naturally found in the body, and there are minimal side effects. Bruising, pain, tenderness, swelling are some common side effects. If you have a history of cold sores, then it might be a good idea to start an anti-viral like Valtrex before having your lips injected to prevent an outbreak after the treatment.

During your consultation, we’ll first establish the kind of results you’re hoping to achieve with lip augmentation. If possible, take some time before our meeting to create a “look book” of people with lips you’d like to emulate.
Once we’ve got a clear picture of your goals, we’ll go over your medical history and complete a short lip and mouth examination to ensure you’re a suitable candidate for treatment. Finally, we’ll cover all the benefits and risks associated with lip augmentation and address any of your remaining questions or concerns.
We get this question a lot. During your consultation, we’ll determine how many treatments will be necessary to achieve your goals. Every patient’s treatment plan looks a little different, and all depends on how and where you want your lips enhanced.
Generally, we use up to one syringe, but no more, of HA filler during your first session. If, after healing, you decide you want a touch-up, we can schedule follow-up sessions to address any issues or provide greater volume.
One of the main benefits of HA filler is the body’s ability to dissolve and absorb the product slowly and harmlessly. Over six to 12 months, the biocompatible compound has usually completely absorbed, returning your lips to their pre-treatment volume.
Patients will see an immediate change in their lips’ volume. However, during the first few days up to a couple of weeks, many patients experience slight swelling or bruising. We use advanced injection techniques to minimize these symptoms as much as possible, but it can happen and is essential to note before choosing lip augmentation.
Most patients will see their final results in a few days. If you’re in the process of deciding whether to get a touch-up, though, we recommend waiting a full two weeks to ensure swelling has completely subsided.
Lip augmentation poses minimal risks, but some do exist. Allergic reaction, infection, and necrosis are extremely rare but possible side effects. It’s crucial to work with an expert injector to be sure your treatment protocol is as safe as possible and minimizes all risk.
As mentioned above, when working with an experienced injector, it’s incredibly rare that a patient wishes to reverse their results. However, if you decide for any reason that you need to remove your HA fillers, we can dissolve the product using an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
