Beauty standards evolve over time as trends shift and the idea of what is aesthetically pleasing changes. A decade or so ago, women wanted to be as thin as possible, while today’s ideal shape is curvaceous and lush, especially in the buttocks. In the field of cosmetic medicine, this has given rise to the popularity of a procedure called a Brazilian butt lift. While butt lifts have traditionally been a surgical procedure, using an injectable filler called Sculptra® can produce similar results without the risks and downtime of surgery. Here’s how it works.
What is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is a liquid filler made from poly-L-lactic acid, which is a biocompatible and biodegradable compound. You may be more familiar with Sculptra® for its most common use, which is to smooth out marionette lines and chin wrinkles.
Sculptra® is different from hyaluronic acid-based fillers like Juvéderm® and Restylane®, which provide immediate results by attracting moisture to the skin to make wrinkles less prominent. Sculptra® works within the deep dermis to stimulate your body’s natural production of collagen over the course of several months. As the microparticles within Sculptra® get absorbed into the skin, they restore its inner structure and create new volume.

How Does Sculptra® Provide a Butt Lift?
Until fairly recently, your only option for markedly improving the shapeliness of your rear end was a surgical option. While butt lift surgery is still a popular choice, the so-called “liquid” butt lift has become an in-demand procedure for many people who are looking to moderately increase the projection and size of their buttocks without the anesthesia, discomfort, stitches, and healing time associated with getting surgery.
It is also useful for women who have begun to experience age-relating sagging in their buttocks. Dr. Joiner or Dr. Alderman can inject Sculptra® in the fatty tissue above the butt muscles to create the support that causes a more uplifted look in the buttocks.
Finally, because Sculptra® helps create new collagen in the skin, you may also wish to pursue a Sculptra® butt lift if cellulite in your buttocks is one of your chief concerns. In addition to making your butt look rounder, Sculptra® can improve the “orange peel” texture and appearance of cellulite by filling in the dimples it creates.
Who Is a Good Candidate for a Sculptra® Butt Lift in Atlanta?
A Sculptra® butt lift is best for women who are at a healthy body weight and are dissatisfied with one or more things about the appearance of their buttocks. This non-surgical option is also ideal for women who do not have enough body fat for a traditional Brazilian butt lift procedure.
What to Expect During and After a Sculptra® Butt Lift
The first step in a Sculptra® butt lift is to sit down with either Dr. Joiner or Dr. Alderman so you can explain your aesthetic goals and what you are hoping the procedure can help you achieve. You should be prepared to describe what type of change you want, whether you are aiming to make your buttocks rounder or if you are looking to reverse the effects of sagging skin. Our doctors will use your concerns as a guide to determine where to inject Sculptra® where it will do the most good at creating volume.
Dr. Alderman or Dr. Joiner will perform your non-surgical butt lift by injecting Sculptra® into targeted areas using small needles while you are lying in a prone position on a table. After the procedure, there is no recovery time required, though it’s common to experience some soreness for a few days afterward, about the same way you might feel if you pushed yourself to do challenging glute exercises at the gym.
To encourage the Sculptra® to spread among the tissue, our team suggests you massage your buttocks several times per day in five-minute sessions for the first few days after your procedure. Other than that, there is little to no aftercare necessary, and you’ll be able to return to your regular activities right away. This lack of downtime is another advantage of getting a liquid butt lift.

To prolong your results, you should expect to get touch-up injections every couple of years. You may also require more than one treatment with Sculptra® to achieve your ideal appearance.
