Most of us don’t want excess fat anywhere on our body regardless of the location. There are many factors that determine where fat is distributed on every woman’s body, and many end up storing fat in the upper pubic area.
“FUPA” is a term used for the Fat Upper Pubic Area and is most common on women after weight loss or pregnancy. It can cause a range of problems, but the number one complaint is that it can ruin your self-esteem. Many women who have it avoid wearing bikinis, sexy lingerie, or any kind of clothing that might draw attention to the area. To make things even worse, the FUPA is also one of the most stubborn areas of the body to target. Diet and exercise alone are often not enough to shrink this area.
That’s why at North Atlanta Plastic Surgery, Dr. Amy Alderman is proud to offer her patients the surgical options called Monsplasty, as it is one of the most effective ways for you to be able to rock that bikini, wear those lacy underwear, or even just fit into your favorite jeans again.
What Is Monsplasty?
Monsplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to restore the appearance of the pubic region. It removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the triangular area just about the pubic bone. Dr. Alderman considers it a fairly easy fix that can dramatically improve your self-confidence. The operation may involve liposuction, re-suspension with sutures, and a direct wedge incision. Dr. Alderman may resect excess skin by creating an incision just above the junction of the abdomen or within the mons itself. This incision will allow for suture placement while Dr. Alderman repositions the mons.
A monsplasty can be performed under general or local anesthesia, depending on how Dr. Alderman chooses to approach the procedure.
Good Candidates for Monsplasty
If you have any of the following concerns about your mons pubis area, then you’ll likely make an excellent candidate for monsplasty:
- Bulging pubic area that shows through clothing, bathing suits, and even jeans
- Pubic area shape has changed during pregnancy or weight change
- Your lower abdomen and pubic area sag
- You’re unhappy with the size, shape, or excess skin in the pubic area
- Age related changes to your pubic mons have become embarrassing
- You feel less feminine due to the pubic area prominence
- Diet and exercise have failed to help
- You want to feel confident in bathing suits and shorts again
Any kind of body change can be difficult to manage and can cause embarrassment both in and out of clothing. Before your surgery or consultation, you should be close or near your goal weight. Monsplasty is not a form of weight loss but rather a companion on your journey. You should also be in good health, quit smoking, and avoid drinking alcohol for at least two weeks before your surgery date.
