Cheek Augmentation in Atlanta – Midface Enhancement with Fillers

Any woman older than forty starts to lose volume in her cheeks, and, ironically, women who stay trim and fit and have a lower body weight often look older than women that are a bit heavier.  The difference is in their cheeks!  Filling the midface with fat or with hyaluronic acid products, such as Restylane® or Voluma, will instantaneously create a more youthful appearance; it’s the perfect way to refresh your natural appearance. Ask Dr. Alderman and Dr. Joiner about cheek augmentation in Atlanta, near the Buckhead area.

Dermal Cheek Fillers: Small Changes, Big Results

Dr. Alderman frequently tells her patients that they can’t be thin and have full cheeks without a little time spent in her office.  A youthful appearance is associated with fullness to the mid-face and highlighted cheekbones.  Patients often seek cheek augmentation to enhance the volume of the cheekbones and recreate a youthful appearance.

Dermal fillers are the easiest, safest way to restore contour and volume to the cheeks.  Several fillers are available, all lasting about a year.  The fillers are easily applied in the office setting by Dr. Alderman herself, are well tolerated by patients, and have little to no downtime. Dr. Alderman enjoys providing these treatments for patients directly so she can answer any questions and provide the highest level of care possible. With her patient-centered approach to cheek fillers, you can feel confident knowing your treatment plan is provided with your needs and goals in mind at all times.

What Cheek Augmentation Treatment is Right for You?

Deciding which cosmetic treatment method is best for you should be a discussion between you and Dr. Alderman during your initial consultation. Several products are available, and she will spend time reviewing the best options given your facial anatomy.

Most common cheek fillers include:

Restalyne Lyft and Voluma are hyaluronic acid fillers. Both products are available in a 1cc syringe and look like a clear gel.  Restylane® Lyft and Voluma are approved for the cheeks and midface areas and provide instantaneous volume.  Lyft and Voluma need to be re-injected yearly to maintain a stable result. The amount of product you need per cheek depends on your facial volume with is impacted by your age, weight, and genetics.  Dr. Alderman will conservatively determine which amount is right for you.

Sculptra® is a Poly-L-lactic acid product.  Sculptra® is used to augment similar areas but the mechanism of action is different in that Sculptra® stimulates collagen growth and requires takes three months or more to achieve peak activity.  Three treatments are required six weeks apart. Once the desired volume is achieved, repeated treatment will not be necessary for two to three years.

For some patients, a combination of both a hyaluronic acid filler along with Sculptra® can provide both immediate and long-term results.

Fillers vs. Cheek and Chin Implants

Advancements in aesthetic procedures have provided for minimally invasive procedures that create satisfying changes to facial aesthetics. While cheek implants can improve facial structure by adding increased dimension, placing an implant is a more invasive surgical process. Dr. Alderman is highly conscious about scar placement; if injectables will create the desired effect, she will recommend this procedure as opposed to facial implant surgery.

Patients should consider that, while implants are permanent and do not require touch-ups every few years, injectables are a worth-while investment that prevents the need for surgery while helping you look and feel younger. Cheek implants may be better suited for patients who wish to change their facial appearance overall, as opposed to restoring volume lost to the aging process.

The Cheek Injection Procedure and Recovery

To add volume to the midface, Dr. Alderman injects the desired treatment at strategic sites. Patients report that these treatments are highly comfortable; ice can be applied before the injection to ensure you are as comfortable as possible. The overall process is quick and can take as little as 30 minutes, depending on your needs.

In general, most patients have an easy recovery with minimal swelling or bruising.  However, in some patients, the cheeks can be sore and feel hard to touch. This usually lasts a week after the injection. If Sculptura was a part of your treatment plan, you may need to massage the treatment area periodically to ensure best results. Dr. Alderman reviews all post-care instructions with patients to ensure they have all information necessary to achieve best results.

Early unevenness between one side of the face to the other is normal due to swelling.  Mild bruising and redness are also common. These after-effects are short-lived, however, and patients report great satisfaction with their facial filler treatment.
