You may have heard the term “designer vagina,” but we wouldn’t go that far. But this vaginal rejuvenation does reduce excess vaginal tissue to smooth over contours without affecting sensitivity. A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that allows women to feel confident and secure by rejuvenating an area where they may feel exposed or less attractive than they would like.  This surgical procedure reduces the labia minora (inside tissue of the genitalia) to make it even with the labia majora (genitalia outer part). The procedure involves multiple technique options, making it a customizable process for each patient seeking help in her private parts.

Why Labiaplasty?

There are several reasons why a woman may have an enlarged labia. These include genetics, sexual activity, aging, and bearing children.  So why have a labiaplasty? Again, a host of concerns women can have. They may experience a urinary tract infection, difficulty with exercise, hygiene problems, or discomfort during sex.

Also, with the popularity of yoga pants, tight workout pants, and revealing swimsuits, an enlarged labium can be embarrassing. But the most popular reason is that many women feel self-conscious during a romantic encounter.

What Does Labiaplasty Involve

There are two popular techniques Dr. Alderman employs for women seeking vaginal rejuvenation. These include the trim procedure and the wedge procedure.

Trim Procedure

This procedure is the most natural to perform. It is also the most popular used by surgeons where the labia minor’s excess tissue is removed and sutured so that it becomes flush with the labia minor.

Wedge Procedure

This technique involves removing a partial wedge from the thickest part of the labia minor. It gives the vagina a natural appearance after the operation, preserving its wrinkled edges.

A labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure performed under general or local anesthesia, depending on the surgical plan.  You will discuss the option with your surgeon during your consultation. The surgery is completed within an hour.

Labiaplasty Recovery

The recovery may last as little as two weeks but can take months to completely heal. You probably will experience some bruising and soreness for a week or two. Sitting may be uncomfortable during this time. We ask you to wear loose undergarments and abstain from sex until fully healed.
